On 17 September 2019, Immigration New Zealand announced major changes to temporary visas which will take place within the next 18 months. They include:
- (1) new employer-led visa application process involving (a) the employer check, (b) the job check and (c) worker check;
- (2) a new temporary work visa replacing 6 temporary work visas using pay to categorise a job rather skill and the Australian and New Zealand Classifications of Occupations.
- (3) Strengthening the labour market test for low-paid jobs and opening access for high-skilled ones in rural areas and lists in cities.
- (4) the introduction of sector agreements by industries.
- (5) allowing lower-paid workers to sponsor their families
Changes to the Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa
Talent (accredited employers) will have to use new processes when these are implemented
